When most people think about buying a dog crate, the first thing that comes to mind are the big ungainly plastic models that are used on to take dogs on airplanes. But, these are not the only kind that can be bought and depending on where the crate will go they are not necessarily the one many people want to buy.

If it is going to be used in a person’s bedroom or in a living area then perhaps something a little fancier would be more appealing. That is when it is worth considering a wicker dog crate since it will be both useful and attractive in a way the clunky plastic models are not. Many people consider the crate another piece of household furniture.

The potential crate buyer should understand that the crate is not made completely of wicker but is a regular crate with a wicker covering to make it look stylish. The material used is specially treated to ensure that it does not soak up odors and to make sure that it will be easy to clean using nothing more than soap and water.

The wicker dog crate opens like any other kind of crate. It would have a front door that closes tightly to make sure the animal stays safely inside. Many of them have a removable pan underneath that is made to be easily cleaned should a puppy be in the middle of being crate trained and have an accident in the crate.

As well the average wicker dog crate is easy to assemble with no need for tools to help put it together. These crates are just as useful for training your puppy as the normal metal only ones. They are just as well made and will last at least as long as the all metal ones. These crates become a secure home for your dog enabling you to offer them a comfortable place to sleep that looks good in your home.

If you have decided to crate train your dog, you may now be on the lookout for that perfect crate. There are a number of different varieties available and one of them includes the plastic variety.

Why Consider a Plastic Crate?

Plastic dog crates are readily available from most pet stores and one of their main benefits is that they are extremely easy to assemble. Some metal crates can take hours to figure out but plastic ones generally fit together quite well and it takes only a few minutes to assemble them.

Another advantage with a plastic crate is that if you take the top part off, the bottom part can then be used as a bed. So you save money by doing it that way and they are quite durable too. Something that you may not know about plastic dog crates, too, is the fact that they are the only type of crate allowed on airline travel.

Now, you may have a picture in your head of what a plastic crate looks like. However, there are a number of different designs available and on the Internet, if you do a quick search, you should find plenty of different styles of plastic crates to choose from.

The Main Advantages of Plastic Dog Crates

If you are still not convinced that a plastic dog crate is for you, then here you will find some of the best advantages that they can offer.

One main advantage is the fact that the crate is collapsible. Metal crates can be an absolute nightmare to take apart and you find yourself getting extremely frustrated and stressed. Half of the time, it would be easier just to leave the metal crate up but that can look very untidy and if the crate is not collapsible, it is not easily portable, either.

Unlike the light weight and sturdy plastic crates, metal crates are extremely heavy to carry. So by having a plastic crate, you will be able to collapse it down and move it whenever you need that extra space and to ensure a tidier home.

You can get various sizes of plastic dog crates and they range from small, medium and large to even larger to suit giant breeds! So, no matter what size dog you have, you can always find a plastic crate to suit your needs.

Plastic dog crates do come highly recommended and another advantage to them is that they are easy to clean. So, if for whatever reason your dog makes a mess in the crate, it can be easily cleaned out. You can find plastic crates everywhere, so just pop along to your nearest pet store and see which styles are available to you.

When it comes to dog crates, they can be extremely useful in training your dog. Many dog owners use them for housebreaking and at times, when they need to leave the dog alone for a while and they find them to be extremely effective. So what exactly is crate training and why should you do it?

What You Should Know About Crate Training

Crate training is a well-known method of training a dog to be left alone, as well as to housebreak them, too. It is a fact that all dogs will not soil their bed if they can help it and so that is why it makes an excellent method of housebreaking a puppy.

Dog crates come in a number of different sizes, so it is vital to get one that is big enough to fit your dog. Even if your puppy is quite small, it would still be a good idea to buy a crate that will fit the dog until it becomes fully grown. This way you will save money as you will not have to go out and purchase another crate later on.

The good news is that crates are not only good to train puppies, but they are also great for an adult dog too. Older dogs enjoy going into their crates sometimes as it provides them with a safe haven to rest and have their own space. You can also use the crate for basic obedience or whenever your dog is a little too much to handle, just place him in there for a little while. Now it is important not to shut him away for hours on end. A crate should only be used when needed and should never be used to cage a dog in there for extended periods of time. This is especially true when house training puppies to not mess up the floor and home.

As mentioned earlier, dogs will never make a mess of their bed unless they have to. So it is important when you keep a puppy in the crate overnight, that you let it out frequently. Puppies cannot hold on all night and you may need to wake up every few hours to let them out of the crate.

As also mentioned earlier, a crate should only be used when needed and leaving a dog inside for too long may elevate their stress level. I highly recommend that you only use it for a few hours. But if the crate is large and roomy enough, it can be left overnight.

A dog crate is an excellent tool for separation of anxiety, as many dogs will ruin furniture and make a big mess when left alone. As you can see, a crate has many uses and can be an excellent piece of equipment to have for any dog or puppy owner. A plastic crate is highly recommended by most animal experts.

When deciding on buying a crate, treat it like a dog’s master bedroom and be sure that his crate is big enough, comfortable and sturdy. Trust me, you will yield greater results with your dog loving you for it!

Many people are against using the electronic dog training collar because they feel it is a cruel method of training your dog. These collars work like this, when the dog does something that their owner does not like the owner will hit the button and the dog is shocked. When the dog stops the bad behavior the shock stops as well. This form of punishment does not take long until the dog stops the behavior the owner dislikes.

This electronic dog training collar can be used for a variety of bad dog behaviors. It can be used if the dog is chasing cars, going through garbage cans or barking when it is not appropriate. Any of these behaviors can be easily corrected by a simple zap. The dog will come to recognize that when it is doing something that it repeatedly gets zapped when performing that deed. They also come to notice that they no longer get shocked when they stop the unwanted action. As soon as they are able to make this connection they will permanently stop the behavior that causes the shock. They will not necessarily make the connection between the momentary discomfort of the shock and their collar.

One of the things that pet owners like about this electronic dog training collar is that they do not have to yell at their dog, hit it or chase after when it is doing something wrong. They are able to punish the dog without them making the connection between the punishment and their owner. Many dog owners feel this is a benefit. Many other dog owners feel that the electronic dog training collar is a cruel method of training a dog and that it should be banned. This point has been argued many times. Trainers claim that this trains a dog quickly. It teaches them to obey their owners without a long training program. They come to know fast what is expected of them.

Dog owners who use the electronic dog training collar say that is breaks the dog of bad habits quickly and so its better for the animal then a long term training program. Yet, there are many other dog owners who just won’t be convinced that this device is anything but cruelty to animals.

Although we love and cherish our beloved pooches, it is up to us to train our dog to understand what sorts of behaviors are acceptable and which are not. One of the ways we can help our dog understand the difference is by the use of a dog shock collar.

The basic operation of a dog shock collar is pretty easy. When the dog is engaged in an activity that is not allowed, the collar emits a very low grade shock. The voltage is not enough to harm the animal, but it is enough to begin the process of averting the dog from activities that are not desirable.

As an example, the dog shock collar is part of an overall package that is known as an invisible fence. By placing sensors around the perimeter of your yard, the dog will receive a mild shock should the animal attempt to leave the perimeter. This over time will help the animal develop a sense of staying on you property and not wandering off.

The dog shock collar can be used in other ways as well. Should you have certain piece of furniture that are off limits to the animal, you can activate a shock when your dog sits on that antique sofa, or crawls into the bed that is sporting that expensive duvet you just purchased.

The shock will be enough to get the dog to jump down and in a short time your animal will associate climbing onto that particular piece of furniture with an unpleasant result. At that juncture, your pet will cease to have any interest in that piece of furniture, no matter how appealing it may have been in the past.

Use of a dog shock collar should be limited to situations where the action could possibly result in a danger to your pet, or to protect your property from possible damage by your pet.

While the purpose of the dog shock collar is to modify your pet’s behavior, it should not been seen as the only effective method, nor should it be used to attempt to train your pet to perform tricks or the more simplistic obedience tasks. For more information on the proper uses of a shock collar, check with your veterinarian and also obedience schools in your area.

Many of us love to have a dog around. Along with the joy of having a pet also comes the responsibility to ensure that our dog understands what is and is not allowed when out for a walk. This is where a dog training collar can come into play. Here are a few reasons why a dog training collar can lead to both a happy pet and a satisfied owner.

When we first acquire a new pet, a period of adjustment ensues. Your dog will be checking out the new surroundings and also trying to determine what types of activities will be acceptable in order to hold your favor. Just as you will teach your dog how to be housebroken, you also will use the dog training collar to reinforce what you consider to be proper behavior in other ways. As an example, your dog training collar will be part of the apparatus you use when taking your dog for a walk.

In some cases, the collar may come with a detachable harness that fits around and under the pet’s front legs. This will allow you to teach the dog how to not strain against the leash. Other lessons such as how to get the dog to understand that you will control the direction that the walk takes also can be learned with the use of this type of dog training collar. In addition, the dog training collar helps you to teach your pet how to set a comfortable pace where both of you get exercise but are not unduly winded.

A training collar is also helpful around the house, when it comes to teaching your new pet about areas that are not for the pet. As an example, some dog training collars come with a device that will emit a low grade electrical shock – not enough to harm your pet, but enough to help the dog associate certain behaviors with a deterrent. This can help you to train your dog to not dig into the trashcan, or to invade the dog food supply, and to stay off the furniture in the formal living room.

Owning a dog is a lot of fun, but it also is a responsibility. By using a training collar to help your pet understand what is and is not acceptable behavior, you ensure that both of you will be happy for many years to come.

The electronic dog training collar can be a great boon to pet owners struggling to train their dogs. But like all other training methods, it has its proper uses and its improper uses, and too often new pet owners find themselves unable to distinguish between the two. It may be as well to clarify from the start what we mean when we say ‘electronic dog training collar.’

We are emphatically NOT talking about collars which deliver an electric shock when the dog misbehaves. These collars are cruel and more painful than necessary, and often have very low results for the amount of damage they do. An electric dog training collar, on the other hand, has a small box capable of emitting loud and unpleasant noises, and is controlled by a remote, which the pet owner holds in their hands while training the dog.

The electronic dog training collar is only useful as an aid to a human trainer. Don’t expect the collar to do the work for you. The best way of using your electronic dog collar is to reprimand the dog when it does not obey your command. Give the dog a command (such as, Sit, for example) and if the dog does not obey, respond by making the electronic dog training collar make its noise.

Show the dog what you want it to do (in the case of the command ’sit,’ press gently on the dog’s lower back, making it sit, while repeating the command to sit) then repeat the command. If the dog obeys, reward it with a treat and a praise. If the dog does not obey, again, use the electronic dog training collar, show the dog what you want it to do, and try again.

For best results, you should never give the dog more than four or five seconds to obey a simple command such as ’sit.’ A dog who obeys eventually is not a dog who obeys at all.

Do not procrastinate and let a few months or even years pass by without training your dog even just the basic toilet routine. Just like us humans, when a dog turns into an adult, it is much harder to teach or train it even if the things we are teaching it is for its own good. Training starts during the puppy years, before the dog turns one. A dog turns into an adult much faster than we do. At two years old, your puppy is already a teenager in comparison to our age in years.

A dog shock collar is one of the modern inventions for dog training. Even without a leash, you can train your dog to follow your instructions and commands. A dog shock collar comes with a remote control, which serves as a replacement for a leash. Within a meter or kilometer radius, you can send shock in varying degrees by a simple click of the remote.

A dog shock collar is considered an effective tool in training dogs effectively and fast, according to professional dog trainers. There is a condition in using a dog shock collars, however. If it will be for home use, the person who will use a dog shock collar must be trained on how to administer it properly. Since the shock comes from mild to moderate to a bit painful, a dog owner must know when to use each shock levels. In fact, the shock levels depend upon the breed of dog, its size, and its ‘intelligence.’ If a dog responds fast to a mild shock, there is no need to shift to moderate shock even if it becomes disobedient in some of your commands. The key in dog training is repetition and recall. Just repeat the command with authority and reward and in no time, you will not ever need your dog shock collar again.

When it comes to taking proper care of your dog, it is important to make sure that everything you do and everything you buy for your pet is right for the height, weight, size and type of dog that you own. Here are a few tips to help you pick out the dog collar and leash that is right for your pet.

The first thing is to realize that a dog collar and leash is not a one size fits all situation. Different breeds require that the collar be adjustable so that the fit around the neck is secure but does not impair the pet’s ability to breathe or to move the neck freely. In order to find that sweet spot between being comfortable for your pet but not so loose that the collar will slip over the head the first time your pet sees another dog on the other side of the street, you may have to try a couple different settings. Take your cue from the dog. If you see your pet is uncomfortable with the fit, then adjust the collar accordingly.

The length of the leash is also a factor in getting the right dog collar and leash combination. Here you should take into consideration the height and weight of your dog in relation to your own height. Most leashes will come in several different lengths, but they will not necessarily promote one length over another based on breed. The determining factor includes you as well. Pick a leash that is long enough for you to comfortably walk with your dog without having to hunch over, while still keeping your pet in close proximity to you.

The strength of the dog collar and leash is one factor that has a lot to do with the size and breed. Larger dogs tend to have more muscle strength and can wear out a thinner weaker leash in no time. Nothing can be quite as disconcerting as walking your dog and having the leash or collar break at an inopportune time. The good news is that collars often do come with recommendations based on the weight of your dog, which will help you select one that should be the appropriate strength for your pet. In selecting the leash to go with the collar, make sure you pick something that is at least the same grade and thickness as the collar. That should prove to be a good combination.

Selecting the right dog collar and leash for your pet can be relatively easy, as long as you keep these few basic principles in mind. To get more ideas on how to select the right dog collar and leash, visit your local pet supply store.

Dog collar and leash are your best buddies to train your best friend. A dog collar will keep your dog in place while the leash will help you control the speed and movement of your dog while training or even while the two of you are doing your morning afternoon routine walk. Dog collar and leash are available in your local pet shop or department store.

The very basic and widely used dog collar and leash are the flat collars and leash in buckle or quick release collar. With a flat collar and leash, puppies are trained by a simple recall-reward technique, that is, they are commanded to, for example, catch a ball by throwing a ball in a short meter at first and if they responded to the command “fetch” they will be rewarded by feeding them with dog stick and loosening the leash by a few meters more, until such time that the dogs respond automatically with the fetch command even without the dog collar and leash.

One of the best training dog collar and leash for a puppy that never stops to bark is a set of martingale collar and leash that tightens up a bit on the neck whenever you pull leash in a snapping manner. A set of martingale dog collar and leash does not choke a dog; it tightens the collar in a wider area leaving the airways free. If your puppy starts to bark loudly and uncontrollably, just snap the leash to tighten the collar and create a zipping sound. The zipping sound serves as a warning to the puppy that its collar will feel a bit uncomfortable. So whenever your pup hears the zipping sound, it means that it should stop barking and go to you so that his collar will loosen up. This way also, your puppy will remember that it can seek comfort from you and thus bid to any of your commands in the future.
